Jewish group of branches: E1b-V13

Introduction

The Jewish branches can be grouped according to their Y-DNA characteristics. These characteristics are often related to a period between 10000ybp-4000ybp. Some branches had a founding father effect in that period outside the Middle East which gives information on the location of their ancestor at the time of the founding father. For other branches it is more likely that the ancestors were in the Middle East, where, in most cases, no founding father effect took place and population growth was continuous. An overview of the Jewish groups of branches is present.

Characteristics

It is not easy to specify where the V13 branches originate. They have no strong presence in a small area of the countries the Jews lived for a long period. The center area is in Greece and the Balkans, but they are also present in the other countries around the Mediterranean. The E-CTS1273 has a founding father effect near 5000 ybp, which is at a similar period as the founding father effect of R1b in Europe and the Indo-European language family of Germanic and Slavic languages arrived. It is plausible that the E-CTS1273 s a founding father for the Greek language.

A speculation might be that most of them became Jewish in the period that Jews and Christians were the new religions in the Roman Empire. It is unlikely that many branches originate in the Middle East, since hardly any E1b-V13 are found in Mesopotamia of Arabia.

One speculation could be that they descend from Philistines. It is thought that the language of the Philistines is the only non-semitic language in the period that they were present in the Levant. Given the expected population size of the Philistines and the number of narrow E-V13 branches, it is unlikely that this is the main cause of the majority of the E-V13 branches.

The easier scenario is that they originate from the area of Greece or Greek colonies, and brought V13 to the Jewish population.
It was once suggested that a large part of the L283-branches of J-L283 could have a similar history. The diversity of the L283 branches in Europe, and Middle East and and the percentages in the Jewish branches, make a Levantine origine easier to fit with history.
