The timescale of the Ashkenazi group was determined as short, despite of the fairly large size of the group. At the moment only two next generation sequence tests are done in this group with an average of 4.5 unique markers. The tmrca is about 620 years, with an uncertainty of about 300 years. At the moment no person of the two Spanish groups of the article are measured by next generation sequencing.
One person who has his oldest ancestor in Brandenburg, 1758, Germany has a Spanish surname (Pino). Whether he has an Ashkenazi or Sephardic male line ancestor is unknown.
In the most likely scenario (at the moment) a Jewish ancestor went with the Islamic control to Iberia and had several male line descendants. One branch left Iberia in the period 1300-1400 and descendants became part of the Ashkenazi population. In that scenario the other branch (with the Spanish descendants) remained in Spain (and some later to Latin America) and changed at some point to the Catholic religion.
In 2017 Michael Waas and collaborators wrote J-Z640 - a Window into the Levantine Bronze Age. This article confirms the earlier results and adds historic information on the end of the Bronze Age and adds the relation to the branches AB-113 and AB-331. They share a male line ancestor before the start of Judaism.
