Distribution of Jews in Italy
Information
The best resource on the Jews in Italy is found on this
website.
The number of Jews that lived in Italy has a few lines of thought:
- 10-15 synagogues in Rome in the Roman period. At that moment Christianity had not yet arrived in Rome. More than 40 locations had a Jewish populaton.
- Only one period in one region had a large Jewish population. This was in Sicily after the Jews were expelled from Spain.
- The website shows the size of the Jewish population after about 1600 in the major Jewish centers.
- The numbers show a small change in comparison with the numbers of Benjamin de Tuleda in 1170.
