Jewish Y-DNA branch AB-527

Introduction

This branch was discussed with the person who tested as 417472. We came to the following conclusion:

This V65 branch (E-BY8823) has three persons tested with NGS (Big-Y). Additionaly one person was tested from Sardinia in the Sardinian collection of Francalacci. A significant STR mutation took place with DYS392 11->10. All measured samples are consistent with this significant mutation. This value of DYS392=10 adds a few more persons in this group.

This results in the following group:

A Sephardic person from Sallonica
A person in Palestine
A person (and close relative) in the Netherlands, with Huguenot oral history (and one shared genealogy)
A person from Poland with Polish/German/Yiddish name (and two similar named surnames)
The Sardinian from the Francalacci study
A person from Libya from the study of Fadhlaoui-Zid

The shared ancestor lived 1900 ybp as estimated in yfull. A parallel branch below (E-V1174) with an estimated tmrca of 1500 ybp has many persons in the Maghreb. It is likely that the E-V1174 branch increased in size after the conquest of the Maghreb by the Muslims. The question that remains is: what is the reason of the large regional distribution of the BY8823 branch? Was the ancestor Jewish and did his descendants leave Iberia after 1492 (Edict of Expulsion)? Another alternative is that the population of BY8823 was already distributed over a larer region in the Maghreb and Spain. In that scenario it is unclear why we have found so few members in Maghreb and Iberia.

At the moment the first scenario seems more likely.
